Klaus Thunder & Ukkosmaine is not quite what it looks like. Their playful lo-fi retro keyboard disco may at first look like it's intended as an ironic attempt on tastelessness, but behind their naïve style there is loads of love for their hometown Joensuu and all the other good things in life. The duo's essence lies in singer Klaus Thunder's suave but passionate voice and keyboardist Wilhelm Meister's elaborate runs, but first and foremost in the sincere enthusiasm of these alchemists on all matters of heart.

The album Niinivaara Express, released on Valentine's Day, introduces a more nuanced and versatile Ukkosmaine than before. There are even songs where the galloping rhythm of the Yamaha organ momentarily ceases and leaves room for the duo to show their more tender side. This album will, hopefully, make many new pairs of ears listen and pay attention to the band's talents. Klaus Thunder & Ukkosmaine is the best and most cheerful tourist guide that you can have in Joensuu. And who knows, perhaps the magic of the band will help you get kissed on Suvikatu street, as the title of their song Suudelmia Suvikadulla forecasts.
