RJD2 (USA)

He's a producer, a DJ, and a multi-instrumentalist. He has written tracks for video games and re-mixed an uncountable number of songs. The curriculum vitae for this Philadelphia resident is long and very impressive: it was already his debut album Deadringer (2002) that catapulted RJD2 instantly into fame, and the follower Since We Last Spoke, released two years later, only increased his hotness in hip hop circles. Both these records were praised by critics and loved by the paying punters. Thanks to only two albums – not to mention RJD2's other projects – he had quickly become one of the most street-credible producers in the USA.

In RJD2's position, many of us would only plan for early retirement, but not this man. Instead, he decided to make a pop album. Deep down in his basement studio, RJD2 composed, played, recorded and produced single-handedly a full-length new album The Third Hand. Released March, this record means a total 180-degree turn compared to RJD2's earlier material. Even if it is justified to call The Third Hand a veritable one-man show, RJD2 will bring with him an entire band to Ilosaarirock, and even modestly promised to play a bunch of new full-band versions of his earlier songs.
