Jaakko & Jay
In the words of Monty Python: And now for something completely different. Some punk bands want big Marshall stacks and double bass drum pedals, some go for a more economic approach. Jaakko & Jay, a duo from Tampere, belong to the latter group. The duo relies on the power of a stripped-down drum set and an acoustic guitar. During the spring, it has made mayhem in clubs and living-rooms one after another and the audience has agreed – less is more.
The duo has played their catchy folk-punk also in the UK and the United States, where one performance took place in a club event organized by a certain rag called New Musical Express. All this and much more was served to Jaakko & Jay on a gold plate, even though for a long time the band had not released any albums and actually had no official releases at all besides a meagre C tape from 2008. This spring, they put out a 7" single, and in the aftermath of the hot festival summer a debut album is to be expected. The duo is tailor-made for summer festivals, but please take a word of warning: wear durable sneakers for this gig, as more than a few pairs have been destroyed in the past!
