Rubik
Rubik, from Joensuu's not-so-distant neighbour town Kuopio, broke through to the public consciousness at once when in 2007 they signed a record deal with Fullsteam Records, a label already known for its enviable sixth sense for finding new, exciting bands. After that, the band has been blessed with numerous chart positions earned both with airplay and album sales – no wonder, then, that soon the band decided to test the greenness of the grass beyond the Finnish borders, and have so far toured as far as Northern America.
The band's second album Dada Bandits saw the light of the day on this April Fool's day, but is very far-flung from a short-lived joke. These songs plant a lump in your throat even in the middle of a July heatwave. You can sit down for a moment or go pogoing for a quarter of an hour, but Rubik's inimitable "chilled out indie rock racket" (quote courtesy of Drowned in Sound magazine) will stay with you and keep the good karma alive long after the show is gone.
