Swallow the Sun
Since the days when this band first saw the darkness of the day in Jyväskylä in 2000, the competition in the Finnish metal scene has got remarkably tougher. Some bands' choice in that situation is to woo the mainstream, but Swallow the Sun has kept on the shadowy side of the road by staying true to their doom metal influences – and yet managed to release hit recordings, such as their latest EP Plague of the Butterflies that went to the No. 1 on the Finnish single charts. Indeed, their powerful musical insight and unbeatable band chemistry are certainly amongst their best assets. Whether it is Juha Raivio's sky-high guitar walls, Mikko Kotamäki's breath-stopping grunting or Aleksi Munter's speed-of-darkness keyboards, there's no question that every chap is needed to construct this colossal view to the no-man's-land between life and death.
The rays of this Sun have reached also the other side of the pond, and currently the band is on an extensive club tour in northern USA. Even if their summer schedule is packed with dates at major European festivals, the lads have still found a slot in their calendars to spend some quality time with their Finnish fans at the darkening night of the soul that's Metelli Club at Ilosaarirock Festival 2009.
