Ilosaarirock opened in Joensuu in the traditional manner – with Sulo Club and Töminä Club. Eppu Normaali headlined the Sulo Club and the for the first time, managed to completely fill out the big Tähti Tent. Over 8000 people came to see Eppu Normaali, Anssi Kela, Pariisin Kevät and Eläkeläiset. Töminä Club, which focuses more on alternative music, had over 2000 customers. This year, those staying on the festival camping areas had free access to Töminä Club.
"Great first day! We had over 2000 people at the Töminä Club, and Sulo Club broke records. We've never had a tenthousandstrong crowd on the first day," relates Markku Pyykkönen, the executive director of Joensuun Popmuusikot ry, which is the organisation behind Ilosaarirock.
The whole of the festival area opens to audience on Saturday. The organisers are expecting about 50 000 festival visitors over the weekend. Ilosaarirock's programme for Saturday includes Studio Killers, Mustasch, Trentemøller and Stam1na. On Sunday, there's Alice in Chains, Portishead, Ellie Goulding and Haim. Both twoday and oneday tickets can be bought from the festival website, Tiketti offices and locally, from the LevyEskot record store, Carelicum and the Ilosaarirock Booth on the market square.
