M.A. NUMMINEN

There is probably no living person in Finland, no matter what their age, who doesn't have an opinion on M.A. Numminen. The man's unarguably unique singing voice, absurd song themes and pungent remarks have gained him the fanatical admiration of half the population. The other half, on the contrary, cannot stand the man's guts.

M.A. Numminen's career spans a total of five decades and, during that time, he's had a vast number of projects in such variable music styles as jazz, classical music, underground, children's music and pop. Even so, his set in this year's Ilosaarirock festival must be one of the most fascinating he has ever played. Under the theme Kielletyt laulut ("Forbidden Songs") Numminen plays his own songs that have, in one way or another, been scandalous or even banned. Between the songs, Numminen tells stories from the sixties Finland and its mental climate.

A history lesson and a rock'n'roll gig combined, performed by one of the very few real Finnish culture persons — this is an event not to be missed!
