The Revenge of Töminä, part 2

Sweaty recollections from the Töminä club

Combine fast-paced melodic punkrock and furious stage presence and you’ll end up with The Heartburns. Serve as an example of how things should be done the proper way to all Ramones-enthusiasts and other wannabe-rough rockers.

07_abduktio-mkh02.jpgPer their name, Abduktio abducted. It’s somewhat typical to see “raw bands” work perfectly in clubs, and subsequently fail miserably at bigger and less intimate arenas. However, due to the hysterically enraged performance, this quintet proved themselves ready for big stage as well.

I wonder if I Walk the Line is punkrock, rockpunk or something completely else? Go figure, but the audience seemed to have made up their minds. Gathering the biggest audience in this year’s Töminä, the band proved themselves as an energetic performer. A tight performance from the beginning to the end, but that’s what you’d expect from such veterans as these.

09_Radiopuhelimet_HK01.jpgThe final act for the evening, Radiopuhelimet, have already been together for 20 years. Despite of the late showtime affecting the number of new listeners, the incredible stage presence of the vocalist Jyrki Mäki was still something for the new generation to look up to. The band didn’t fail a bit as the setlist contained material from their 1980’s punk material to new and yet unreleased material.

Summa summarum: Töminä is among the best things Ilosaarirock has to offer.
