The jazzing men in black of five corners

Five Corners Quintet is an example of how jazz, which has been considered artistic and unpopular for the last decades can work in rock festivals as well. Perhaps the secret lies in the correct packaging and marketing of the music.

07_TheFiveCornersQ_PP05.jpgThis concert is also an example of how the festival has grown and matured during the years, as ten years ago it would’ve been completely impossible to imagine the third stage full of people cheering to drum solos. The band’s music is rather traditional jazz, not the crossover type meant to please large audiences. The one-hour set contains material from mellow bossa nova to stiff crushing. The audience doesn’t seem to mind, they’re in love with the group.

But still - drum solos.
