Smokesuit has attitude
Makes me wonder if people had forgot to set their alarm clocks last night, as Smokesuit had to perform to an unfortunately small audience. Despite of this setback, the group offered a powerful rock show full of sweat. Their recently released debute album Through the Void proved grunge isn’t dead, and in fact is very much alive - at least in Seinäjoki, which is the westcoast town where they’re from.
Since it’s summer, you have to dance, or at least this is how the vocalist seemed to think, and showed example on stage. Despite of the audience not being in as partying mood as during last night’s main artist, the energetic stage presence of the group was interesting to watch. Even though the genres don’t completely meet, Hanoi Rock’s Michael Monroe has inspired Smokesuit as well: almost by defying death the vocalist Marcus Hietanen seized the moment and climbed the structures of the truck stage.
Smokesuit is a welcome newcomer, who must be experienced live. If even a small, but obviously one with a very good taste, audience can incite the group into such a riot, the thought of the performance Smokesuit could give for a huge is almost scary. And judging by how things are going, it might be pretty soon. Maybe then even the late sleepers will get a new chance.
