Mighty good metal from Heaven Shall Burn
Heaven Shall Burn has somehow escaped the attention of the larger audiences, so I didn’t wonder that I knew next to nothing about the band. I had heard a few songs, and enjoyed a ballet performance where they had made a good use of Heaven Shall Burn’s music, but that was it. So I took my place in the back of the tent, just behind some guys who looked like they knew thing or two about rock and weren’t about to be easily swayed.
The crowd wasn’t entirely clueless about the band. The front rows were packed from the start with people who knew every song. After a few songs the rest of the audience were convinced, even the guys in front of me had their fists in the air.
The fast-paced set appeared to be quite even to listeners who didn’t know the band from before. Halfway through the gig it seemed that while in the front the mood was rising, the back was clearing of people and pretty quiet. The rock know-it-alls in front of me had departed a while ago. Those of us who had stayed until the very end were rewarded. The band showed its true colors in the end, and especially the encore blew the roof off the tent. Heaven Shall Burn was rewarded with a storm of applause. After the show, the announcer’s words “Mighty good metal” were repeated by many of those leaving the tent.
