Winning war cry of Turisas
Turisas is known worldwide first and foremost for their theatrical live performances and warpainted ways. This territorial conquest to Joensuu was the first during the band’s career but it never became necessary to raise a white flag to signal surrender. By the time the hypnotical manta of In the Court of Jarisleif was heard, the front of the stage had started to resemble an all-bouncing and all-dancing battleground. The dancing soldiers took possession of the entire front with the cowardy members of the audience fleeing further back.
Turisas can no longer be categorised solely as battle metal, the group’s expression is moving more and more towards folk-style expression. Netta Skog’s accordion and Olli Vänskä’s violin were guaranteed to win over even the tight-assed representatives of the rock police phenomenon to nod in the rhythm of melodical music. And in no point there is reason to underestimate the power of Mathias “Warlord” Nygård’s animalistic roar. The group’s enviably energetic outburst held the audience in its grasp until the end, and the powerful war cries of Turisas can most likely be witnessed in Ilosaarick also in later years!
