This year Ilosaari Rock put Us3 in the line-up, a base that first won acclaim in the United States through Blue Note Records in the 90s, but that has also been invited to perform around the world. One of the most anticipated bands in whole Ilosaarirock has most definetely been Porcupine Tree. The band started its recording career in the beginning of the 90s, and has since achieved solid cult reputation. Their latest album, Fear of a Blank Planet, is frequented by prog rock legends Robert Fripp and Alex Lifeson.

One of the most anticipated performers of Saturday evening made devices measuring the Richter, atmosphere and decibel scales all plot high diagrams.
In addition to Klaus Thunder & Ukkosmaine, llosaari Rock featured Joensuus’s own Insomnium, who have previously performed their melodic death metal at three excellent concerts. This band shows definite future promise. Having promise, however, doesn’t guarantee a stellar show, but Insomnium came out and proved that their music of Karelian longing and fury was without a doubt enough to please the crowd.
