Insomnium’s fury filled the stage
In addition to Klaus Thunder & Ukkosmaine, llosaari Rock featured Joensuus’s own Insomnium, who have previously performed their melodic death metal at three excellent concerts. This band shows definite future promise. Having promise, however, doesn’t guarantee a stellar show, but Insomnium came out and proved that their music of Karelian longing and fury was without a doubt enough to please the crowd.
The band was surely awaiting their third festival appearance this summer, because their on-stage performance was filled with fury and energy particularily during their first piece. The guitarists laid tight riffs as bassist Niilo Sevänen’s manly growling topped on the band’s stage presence. Swallow the Sun’s well-known keyboard player, Aleksi Munter, was featured on stage as a guest star. Insomnium’s music has progressed to the point at which they don’t need guest stars to promote them, and Munter’s headbanging with the group showed that he should stick with playing the keyboard.
The band presented primarily fresh material, which by no means was a pity, but for variety’s sake the set should have flavored a pair of songs from their debut album. The tremendous finishing performace, however, guaranteed that not even hardened Rokki police were left grumbling about the performance. Excellent material, high-energy performing, and clear sounds made such a combination that rarely scores anything less than a ‘10.
