Another sharp scythe lash
In the beginning of its career, Viikate was known as a reluctant performer. Nevertheless, since then it has developed into a downright confident live act. In their black show gear, Kaarle Viikate and the rest took audience at the main stage of Ilosaarirock in distinguished manner - despite the early show time which caused the fans to be in even stiffer state of mind than the band itself.
As expected, the band concentrated on the material from the most recent albums: as Kaarle himself has put it, he’s written the same song so many times, it is more convenient to perform the most recent version. Padat, Ajakaa!, Nämä herrasmiehet and other gig classics were accompanied by the stylish film soundtrack song Ei enkeleitä and the gloomy Yönseutu, selected from the band’s debut album.
After contemplating the nature of alcohol in the instrumental Leikatun konjakin salaisuus, the drummer Simo expressed his craving for beer and thus also the audience was allowed to move on to more informal kind of entertainment. Viikate’s twinkle-in-the-eye stage habitus and extremely rocking approach result in originality and above all good quality. Therefore the band’s success on the radio is not such a wonder either.
