Saaripop began with compact atmosphere as everybody gathered under umbrellas. One umbrella could even give shelter for two photographers and two reporters. The crowd did not let the rain affect them and welcomed the bands with sparkles in their eyes and smile on their faces.
The bands were not afraid of the chilly weather and Highway Burns opened the act with its country oriented punk warming the crowd in seconds. Behind their shades the band showed how to have fun and enjoy music. Elina Nenonens clear voice and Janne Tanskanens ever-changing instruments were inspiring. The bands drummer Eemeli Rautiainen was satisfied with their performance even though his drums nearly broke down. You haven’t heard the last of them!
After Highway Burns finished, the stage was filled with long haired boys from the Flies Around the Light and even the sun came out to salute them. The grunge oriented band pleased the audience.
Last but not least the stage was taken by Pearly Gates which came second in the Rok it!-band contest. The bands attitude was expressive and every player rocked out completely bringing their unique touch to the mix. Pearly Gates continued with their full on rock and finished the night with more melodic approach. The band praised the positive atmosphere on the gig. Pearly Gates will appear next in Joen Yö and later in Turku.
The first day of Saaripop was a success despite the rainy day!
