Summer’s de-odorant boys

05theodorants_mh04.jpgThe representatives of new finnish bubblegum-punk started truck stage’s Sunday in a steady fashion. A bit frozen crowd didn’t really warm up, although there was nothing wrong in the playing. The best part in festivals is discovering bands you haven’t heard before. Again I used the given occasion to familiarize myself with an unknown band and this time in turn were The Odorants.

A fine amount of crowd were interested about the band, and I felt there’s a good ratio between the main stage and the truck stage. At first I feel a bit enthusiastic, but after first impressions, it doesn’t get any further than that. I just don’t belong into the target audience. Drums soon become the finest aspect of this gig and I wonder if it’s because of the mixing engineer, the drummer himself or the songs. There’s something special in them, and this is only positive. Steady surf-punk rolls, but doesn’t really boost my enthusiasm, the songs are just beyond my reach.

The audience seems a bit shy, but interested. A cover version of “Boys of Summer” confuses me, wouldn’t have expected that. Afterwards a The Dudesons-influenced expert presents a differing opinion about the gig. Good riddance.
