Stonegard offered a good show

08stonegard_mk03.jpgAt Ilosaari Rock you can trust that you will get to know new, interesting artists, and such an opportunity arose for festival participants as Norwegian metal band Stonegard stepped on the III stage to play this Saturday.

Stonegard, with two published albums under its belt, truly shined while performing. This melodic metal band combines many different styles in their music, but it is based on Metallica-style trash-metal. It was indeed refreshing to hear moments of lighter rock melodies mixed in amongst the many 3/4 waltz tempo and traditional metal beats.

08stonegard_mk01.jpgThe band played and sang skillingly, and the crowd reacted strongly, throwing out loud shouts and cheers. The musicians responded in kind, raising toasts to the crowd and taking drinks from their beers. Singer-guitarist Torgrim Torven’s James Hetfield mannerisms were at times quite unnecessary, but all in all the band offered a thrilling and skillfully-played show in the III stage’s nearly full tent.
