Damn Seagulls kept the rain at bay
The rain had kept in hiding all through Friday night, but as Damn Seagulls were to take to the stage as the last performers on Rekkalava, a few drops fell from the sky. Alas, as the Helsinki-based band started their uptempo playing, the clouds went away.
The band took control of the audience straight away, playing the most intensive gig of the evening. Their rocking made even people further away dance. The eight-man band, consisting of a basic rock quintet and a three-man horn section, played like their lives depended on it. Their on stage action was especially active considering that the bass player was the only one without a microphone stand.
“This is awesome. Even though were all across the country, it feels just like home”, singer-guitarist Lauri Eloranta told the audience in between songs. It actually seemed like the band hadn’t been expecting such an energetic response.
And as the band exited stage left, the rain returned.
