Journeymen’s tough spot

Sunnuntaina 15. heinäkuuta 2007

03journeymen_mh01.jpgBeing the first band to play the second day of the festival is always an ungrateful spot. Add cold weather and a nasty torrent of rain to the mix, and you end up with a rather large handicap. This was the situation that Journeymen from the town of Pietarsaari were faced with.

Masked metal heroes

Sunnuntaina 15. heinäkuuta 2007

15scorngrain_mh03.jpgThe festival audience were treated with harsh metal grind by Scorngrain. Forces of the nature sided with the band as the pouring rain ceased the moment the band began to play. Considering how impressive the band’s makeup was, it’s rather obvious they’ve done more than just raided their mother’s makeup storage. Lue koko artikkeli »

Finnish jazz is alive and vital with Nieminen Litmanen and Dalindeo

Sunnuntaina 15. heinäkuuta 2007

02nieminenlitmanen_tp05.jpgFor festivalgoers this Sunday afternoon, two very different styles of jazz came alive on the III stage with the “Scandinavian Action Jazz” of Nieminen & Litmanen at 13.00 and the “Cinematic Bossa Nova” of Dalindeo at 15.00. Towards the rain with Disco Ensemble

Sunnuntaina 15. heinäkuuta 2007

What do the festival goers do when the sky opens with a pouring rain while Disco Ensemble is playing? If they’re well prepared, they take out their umbrellas. The less well prepared seek for cover at the nearest stage. And if they’re extremely badly prepared, they kick off their sandals and boogie away in the puddle. Lue koko artikkeli »

Joyous feelings with Emma Salokoski Ensemble

Sunnuntaina 15. heinäkuuta 2007

01emma_mp05.jpgAs the Sunday’s opening act on YleX Stage, Emma Salokoski Ensemble didn’t give any easy listenings for the audience. Combining jazz, pop and South American rhythms, the band forced the listeners to pause and concentrate. In return, they threw themselves fully into the show and the audience received a splendid festival experience.

Summer’s de-odorant boys

Sunnuntaina 15. heinäkuuta 2007

05theodorants_mh04.jpgThe representatives of new finnish bubblegum-punk started truck stage’s Sunday in a steady fashion. A bit frozen crowd didn’t really warm up, although there was nothing wrong in the playing. The best part in festivals is discovering bands you haven’t heard before. Again I used the given occasion to familiarize myself with an unknown band and this time in turn were The Odorants.

Another sharp scythe lash

Sunnuntaina 15. heinäkuuta 2007

09viikate_mp03.jpgIn the beginning of its career, Viikate was known as a reluctant performer. Nevertheless, since then it has developed into a downright confident live act. In their black show gear, Kaarle Viikate and the rest took audience at the main stage of Ilosaarirock in distinguished manner - despite the early show time which caused the fans to be in even stiffer state of mind than the band itself. Sunnuntaina 15. heinäkuuta 2007

04lannenjukka_mk02.jpgLast year J. Karjalainen released a record full of Finnish-American folk songs under the name Lännen-Jukka. The album was a success among both critics and customers. The Lännen-Jukka trio opened the Sunday’s program on the main stage. Besides J. Karjalainen, the harmonious trio includes the violinist Ninni Poijärvi and guitarist Mika Kuokkanen.
