Mellow summer tunes

The word ‘convivial’ rarely comes to mind when talking about Maj Karma, but this is exactly the adjective to describe the group’s Ilosaarirock gig this year.
Maj Karma marched to the main stage of Ilosaarirock on Saturday afternoon bringing along with it also
the sun: “we’ve been deceived”, commented the band’s figurehead Ylppö right before the band rumbled
out its own thunder (Ukkonen).

The quartet has already such a repertoire that they can easily seize any venue, including Laulurinne.
The 60-minute show included not only reminiscing Ylppö’s own Ilosaarirock experiences over the years
but also a bunch of band’s best known hits: the set featured lively versions of for example Sodankylä,
Rukous and Romanssi while this year’s true summer hit, the last song Attentaatti, added the finishing
touch to the already powerful performance.
Besides to the manical Ylppö, nowadays many people pay equal attention to the right side of the stage.
The new bass player Kimmo Kurittu has brought fresh energy to the stage and displayed his showman’s
skills by spending plenty of time with his cordless bass between the stage and the audience.
