Who can imagine a better way to wake up to beautiful Sunday than the singing of a classic songbird. Maria Lund’s delicate, ethereal voice moves something in the deepest recesses of even the most hard-boiled listeners’ hearts, and takes the audience for a trip in the olden-and-golden times. Ms. Lund was clothed in a classic-style white dress, complete with long black gloves and black heels, and one could even spot some folk dressed in similar manner in the audience.

Style issues aside, few people might argue that performers like Maria Lund aren’t exactly what comes to mind when you hear the word rock festival, but she was just what the doctor ordered for this fine Sunday mornings slot at the Main stage. After all, her set included well-known songs, albeit interpreted in unusual manner.

The jazzy-playful musical breakfast was an intriguing concoction of classic-style jazz song and modern day pop music that was intrinsically invited to dance. Ms. Lund’s voice ranged from fragile to strong, from light to dark as necessary. One of the most memorable pieces was an interpretation of Nightwish’s Sleeping Sun in Finnish.
