Empowering, that’s what Katatonia’s gig was all about. When the stage is full of guys devoted to their music it always glows energy. Going through the whole repertory of emotions, all in all Katatonia’s performance was an cleansing experience.
Singer Jonas P. Renske couldn’t stop repeating how happy the band was to be back in Finland. Often words like these are just complementary but in this case it was clear that the message was genuine. Time to time it felt like the band and the crowd had gone into their own special trance. “Close your eyes and let all the pain, frustration and sadness flow away as Katatonia cures you.”, seemed to be the general atmosphere when looking at the crowd in the YleX venue. The crowd warmly embraced the drummer Daniel Liljekvist who was celebrating his birthday here in Ilosaarirock.
A fantastic gig and with out of doubt there could have not been a better place to celebrate ones birthday. In this spirit, with the words of July “I see the bright lights/ It’s the month of July.”. Thank you Katatonia! You love Finland and Finland loves you!!
