Death Hawks has been one of the most talked-about combos of the Finnish indie scene in the recent years. The band, unashamed of their penchant for hairy looks, psychedelia and 1970s-style jamming, have been all over the front pages of the music press, played all the coolest venues and received justified attention in Finland and elsewhere in Europe without ever comprimising their air of mystery and secrecy.

Death Hawks have released two overpoweringly hypnotic albums, but they are definitely at their best live. The frontman, Teemu Markkula, uses his guitar to cast one magical spell of a riff after another. The standard concept of a three-minute hit song seems very, very distant when one chord lasts for ages and is completed with whispered musings in a language that contains no words. All you can do is stop and stare while the primitive rhythm sucks you deeper and invites you to free your feet and let your mind follow.
