Insomnium
The pride of Joensuu's metal scene, Insomnium, is quite a band. Each of their albums has seemed an unsurpassable achievement until the next one has exceeded all expectations. The band's melodic death metal seemed to reach perfection on Above the Weeping World, but new more epic heights and progressive new worlds have been conquered with each subsequent outing. Across the Dark and One for Sorrow are both uncontested masterpieces. The sixth album Shadows of the Dying Sun consolidated their place in the European metal pantheon for good.
Imsomnium has been touring the world relentlessly with such legends as Paradise Lost, Dark Tranquillity, and Children of Bodom. The road has taught them a trick or two and forged them into a live killing machine. Insomnium only plays a few gigs in Finland this year so make sure you are there when they take over the Ilosaarirock Festival's stage.
