Volunteering is another way of experiencing Ilosaarirock Festival. Volunteers get to peek behind the curtain and belong to the large number of people making Finland's jolliest rock festival happen.
As a volunteer, you'll meet lots of great people and make many new friends. Volunteering is a fun and fascinating way of participating in Ilosaarirock Festival: many volunteer again year after year.
How to apply? You need to apply to be a volunteer. Please fill in our application form here. Ilosaarirock staff will contact you either by phone or e-mail during the early summer. All applicants will be informed about the selection by Friday, July 1.
Non-Finnish-speaking volunteers have to be at least 18 years old.
If you have any questions about volunteering, don't hesitate to ask: will answer your questions and provide advice.
Good to know
As a volunteer you will attend for about 16 hours in total during the festival weekend. To be able to access the festival site, you will receive a volunteer wristband.
All volunteers get a special t-shirt which helps to distinguish them from the festival crowd. After the festival you can keep the t-shirt as a souvenir.
Volunteers will be offered a warm home meal on their volunteer days.
The volunteers' own resting place (Taukotupa) is an area for all volunteers to relax and take a breather. There is a small coffee shop for volunteers, where you can drink coffee and buy sandwiches, sweets and snacks for a discounted price.
For volunteers coming from outside the city centre of Joensuu, it is possible to stay overnight at Joensuu sports hall from Friday, 15th of July (2pm) until Monday, 18th of July (10am). The sports hall accommodation is free of charge for volunteers, all you need to bring with you is your personal items. Ilosaarirock will provide mattresses for all volunteers. We offer accommodation only for the duration of your volunteering. If your tasks take place before or after the festival, you need to take care of the accommodation yourself.
The sports hall accommodation is only available for volunteers and you cannot purchase a ticket to the accommodation. There are limited spaces available in the sports hall accommodation. If you wish to stay at Ilosaari Camping instead, you may purchase a camping ticket for yourself at cost price.
Recycling and cleaning
The recycling and cleaning staff take care of the festival site by keeping it clean and making sure that all waste is recycled properly. In addition to making sure that the festival looks and feels good in general, tasks can include offering recycling guidance to the festival-goers.
Customer service is needed in almost every area of responsibility, such as in cloakrooms, info and merchandise. For these positions we look for enthusiastic and cheerful people who enjoy working with all kinds of customers.
Changing wristbands and ticket sales
The staff of changing wristbands and ticket sales makes sure that every customer has the right wristband and ticket to the right place. For this position, as for all other volunteer tasks, we look for enthusiastic and cheerful people who enjoy customer service.
Catering feeds the hungry festival people, bands and volunteers. The most important thing is to make sure that enough coffee and food is being served, things stay clean and the service is friendly.
Members of the power team are fast learners and want a varied volunteering experience. The power team’s tasks might be a mixture of the tasks listed above as well as something completely different.
We warmly welcome you to volunteer at the 2022 edition of Ilosaarirock Festival!
